We welcome all of God's people to this church, and believe that our community is strengthened by our differences in age, ethnicity, economic status, gender, sexual orientation, religious background, and opinion.
Our worship is intentional. As we celebrate the Eucharist together each week, we truly believe that the liturgy is indeed the "work of the people" and every voice is heard when we speak, pray, or sing. A few of us grew up in the Episcopal Church, but many more of us have come from other religious traditions and have found home here. When we say all are welcome, we mean it.
We are a parish committed to learning from scripture, preaching, personal experience, and each other. We are open about our doubts and questions. We feel free to discuss and to disagree about all sorts of things. When we are together, discussions are lively.
We believe that what we do the rest of the week is as meaningful as what we do together on Sunday. We want to know about and support each person’s ministry in the wider world.
We are small enough to know you by name, and we invite you to be part of anything and everything that interests you. You’re also welcome simply to worship with us, with no expectations.
We don’t care how you dress. Wear what you’d like and be comfortable.
We take God seriously, ourselves less so. We believe that church should be alive, so expect laughter and whimsy, as well as some intense conversation, even from those of us who are introverts.
The neighborhood of Allston that we serve is comprised of one of the most diverse populations in Greater Boston: Asian, Hispanic, European, Creole, African, Indian, Brazilian, and others. Additionally, many college students move into the area during the school year, bringing their energy and liveliness. We at St. Luke’s and St. Margaret’s (fondly referred to by parish members as SLAM) endeavor to be a reflection of the vitality of this community.
